Terms & Conditions
The American School for the Deaf is proud to present its second Juried Art Exhibit, “One People, One World – Living Without Limits,” at the University of Hartford’s Silpe Gallery from June 2 – July 1, 2023.

Participation in the art exhibition will be open to all deaf and hard of hearing artists in the following categories: student, amateur, and professional.

All submissions will be accepted online February 1 – April 1, 2023 (deadline is midnight on April 1st). The jury fee is $35 for up to three entries. Exception: Students up to the age of 21 may submit up to 3 entries for free using promo code “student”. If you are unable to pay the jury fee, please contact Liz DeRosa at elizabeth.derosa@asd-1817.org. The exhibition is open to artwork in all traditional and digital printmaking techniques. Entries accepted for the exhibit will be announced online during the week of April 15, 2023, and entrants will be notified by email if their works are chosen for exhibition. Accepted entries must be shipped via the commercial carrier of the artist’s choice to arrive to ASD by May 15, 2023. All shipping costs are to be paid by the artist.

Awards: All juried winners will be announced by May 25, 2023. More information to follow on the selected jurors for the exhibition.

Exhibition dates are June 2 – July 1, 2023. An opening reception and awards presentation will take place on Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Silpe Gallery.

Calendar:
April 1, 2023 (midnight) – Deadline for Entries
April 15, 2023 – Exhibit acceptance notifications sent.
May 15, 2023 – Work must arrive to ASD.
June 2 – July 1, 2023 – Dates of Exhibition

June 1, 2023 - Opening Reception (5:00 - 7:00 p.m.)
July 2, 2023 – Work shipped back to artists or available for pick-up.

Exhibition Requirements:

All pieces included in the exhibition must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition and may not be removed until the show closes on July 1, 2023.
- Artwork must be ready to hang.
- Prints must be suitably framed behind Plexiglass.
- No gallery clips, glass or L-pins please.

ASD reserves the right to inspect all artwork for quality and condition before hanging. There are no size requirements for submission, but please review the floor plan of the Silpe Gallery to ensure that large works will physically fit into the gallery. The Silpe Gallery reserves the right to return any work that does not fit into the gallery space. 

Sales and Commissions:

If the artist wishes to sell their pieces, please contact Rennie Polk prior to the exhibition opening.

Liability:

The Silpe Gallery does not insure works of art on display. Although every professional precaution will be taken to ensure the safety of all work, the Silpe Gallery, the Hartford Art School, the University of Hartford, and the American School for the Deaf cannot be held liable for any loss or damage. Artists who desire to insure their work will need to make their own arrangements. 

Reproduction of Images:

Permission is granted to the Silpe Gallery, the Hartford Art School, and the American School for the Deaf for reproduction of artwork for catalog and/or advertising purposes. Your entry into the exhibition constitutes agreement with this understanding.

Artwork Shipping, Delivery and Return:

Accepted entries must be shipped via the commercial carrier of the artist’s choice. All shipping costs are to be paid for by the artist. Work selected to be featured in the exhibit must be shipped and received at the American School for the Deaf (address below) by Monday, May 15, 2023. Hand deliveries will be accepted from 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023. Late deliveries will NOT be accepted.

Work should be securely and appropriately wrapped or packed for shipping. The Silpe Gallery, the Hartford Art School, the University of Hartford, and the American School for the Deaf are not responsible for works that arrive damaged. All shipped works will be returned in their original packaging and must include return postage or a return pre-paid label from the carrier of the artist’s choice. All artwork without return postage should be picked up between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023. The Silpe Gallery, the Hartford Art School, the University of Hartford, and the American School for the Deaf will not be responsible for artwork not collected after the exhibition closes, or for artwork shipped without proper return postage. Any artwork that remains uncollected will become property of the Hartford Art School and the American School for the Deaf.
